BATH

Today, we journey to the enchanting city of Bath, nestled in the southwest of England. This city, renowned since Roman times, owes much of its early fame to its natural hot springs.

The Romans were drawn to these thermal waters and built a temple and bathing complex around them in the 1st century AD. Though the bathing complex we see today — the Roman Baths — dates back mainly to the late 19th century, it showcases the ancient structures that lie beneath. Visitors can still immerse themselves in these warm waters at the Thermae Bath Spa, complete with a rooftop pool providing breathtaking views over the city.

The city’s appeal extends beyond its thermal waters. Bath is a showcase of stunning Georgian architecture. In the 18th century, the city became a sought-after resort for the wealthy, resulting in the creation of architectural marvels such as the Royal Crescent, the Circus, and the Assembly Rooms.

Exploring Bath on foot is a delight, with charming streets, verdant parks, and beautiful gardens awaiting discovery. A visit to the Jane Austen Centre offers a glimpse into the life and works of the famous author, despite her personal ambivalence towards the city. No trip to Bath would be complete without a visit to Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House, where you can savour the city’s famous Sally Lunn buns, a type of sweet bread with a long history in English cuisine.

Bath, with its blend of architectural grandeur, rich history, and natural allure, remains one of the most captivating cities in England. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a culinary adventurer, or someone seeking a tranquil retreat, Bath beckons as the perfect destination.
