THE TOWER OF LONDON

Today, we’re travelling to the heart of London to explore one of the most iconic landmarks in the country – the Tower of London.

Built by William the Conqueror in 1078, the Tower of London has a rich and fascinating history. Originally constructed as a fortress and royal palace, the tower has also served as a prison, a royal mint, and a menagerie.

Perhaps the most infamous use of the Tower of London, however, was as a prison for those accused of treason. Over the centuries, many high-profile figures were imprisoned and executed at the Tower, including Anne Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey, and Guy Fawkes.

Today, the Tower of London is one of the most popular tourist attractions in London, drawing millions of visitors each year. Highlights of a visit to the tower include the Crown Jewels, the White Tower, and the Beefeater tours, where visitors can learn about the history and legends of the tower from the Yeoman Warders.

But the Tower of London isn’t just a historical monument – it’s also a living piece of history. The tower is still home to a small military garrison and the iconic ceremonial regiment of the Yeoman Warders, who have guarded the tower for over 500 years.

If you’re planning a visit to London, the Tower of London is an absolute must-see. It’s a place where history comes alive, and where you can walk in the footsteps of kings, queens, and traitors.
